Ubuntu: switch between windows of the same application
The problem
If you are on Ubuntu with Unity, pressing Alt+Tab toggles between applications only normally. So if you have more than one browser or terminal window open it’s somewhat more difficult to switch between those as compared to good Windows. At least until you figure out how to do it.
(Bad) Workaround
I did find this quite annoying and resorted to either clicking the application icon in the left task pane and then selecting the appropriate window, or quickly hitting Alt+Tab
followed by Alt+Shift+Tab
which toggles the windows of the same application as well.
Real solution
Not really satisfied with that I asked the mighty internet and sure enough discovered the solution: Simply press Alt+[key above tab=^]
. For me on a German layout it is Alt+^
. I am using Ubuntu 13.04. Source: http://askubuntu.com/a/343723/202942
I believe that on U.S. keyboards it’s the key above the `tab` key, not the `shift` key. For me it’s the ’tilde’/’backtick’, `~` and ““`.
Thanks for the tip!
